Man Fatally Shot at Sun Valley Recreation Center Identified

Sun Valley, Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department through a news release has identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Sun Valley on Jan. 2, 2022, as 62-year-old Antonio Olmeda.

According to LAPD, Foothill area officers responded to a shooting call at Vineland Avenue and Strathern Street around 11:00 a.m. Officers discovered the male victim unconscious and not breathing due to gunshot wounds. The victim was a person experiencing homelessness, and he was in his encampment.

Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was known to live at the location where he was discovered and may have been shot several hours prior to being discovered, according to LAPD. The victim was found by a friend who notified police.

The shooting occurred less than 100 feet away from a children's play yard at the Sun Valley Recreation Center. There is no suspect information.

LAPD Homicide detectives from Valley Bureau are seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Olmeda.
