(AUSTIN, Texas) On Thursday, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a new executive order outlawing vaccine requirements for tax-funded entities.

According to the governor's office, the order was provided to give "clarity and uniformity" about the state's COVID-19 response and procedures.

The order states, "no governmental entity can compel any individual to receive a COVID-19 vaccine administered under an emergency use authorization."

Mask mandates are also not allowed by government officials or entities.

The order expresses personal responsibility and Texas has "mastered the safe practices that help to prevent and avoid the spread of COVID-19."

This order comes as Austin Mayor Steve Adler, along with Democratic lawmakers and the Austin Independent School District asks for a retraction on previous executive orders stating that no mask mandates will be allowed in public schools and government buildings.

Austin-Travis County is currently in Stage 4 risk, with 12 confirmed cases of the delta variant and 2,151 active cases of COVID-19.
