(THE BRONX, N.Y.) The New York City Police Department distributed footage Monday of two men suspected of stabbing a volunteer for Eric Adams’s mayoral campaign in the Bronx on Sunday, according to ABC 7 NY.

Adams, the top Democratic candidate for the mayoral primary election on Tuesday, called for action as violence continues to grow across the five boroughs.

All candidates have been outspoken about crime during the race and it has now directly affected the Adams campaign, per ABC 7.

Police distributed footage of the two suspects on social media Monday. The stabbing took place around 2:30 p.m. outside of 594 Morris Ave, police said.

According to the NYPD, the man seen in the white tank top stabbed the victim multiple times with an ice pick.

He was accompanied by another man seen sporting a sweatshirt that had the word "privileged" printed on the front.

Authorities said the victim has several arrests on his record and was not compliant with detectives.

The incident took place as the volunteer was campaigning near the intersection of 150th Street and Morris Avenue in the Morris Heights section of the borough.

Despite the injury, he managed to run down to 149th Street to alert police of the incident, ABC 7 reports.

"He was a volunteer that came out every day and actually the video shows he was out giving out literature for the campaign, but he was stabbed multiple times," Adams said.

The 42-year-old victim required surgery after the stabbing and was listed in stable condition Monday at Lincoln Hospital.

"He's out of surgery," Adams told CNN Monday. "We visited him, and I spoke with him at the hospital. The video was just horrific. Someone came up behind him and repeatedly stabbed him."

Adams said it was not known if the reason behind the stabbing was linked to the worker's canvassing in the area.

"We don't know, hopefully not," he said. "The police department is conducting a thorough investigation. The video was there, and that's why it's so important to use technology to add another layer on public protection in the city."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by messaging on Twitter @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
