Lynchburg police have charged one person in connection to another shooting overnight Tuesday.

Devan Rashod Wooding, 22, is charged with murder and a number of other charges for this crime.

It's the second deadly shooting this week; it's the sixth homicide this year for the Hill City.

This time it happened in the 3400 block of Fort Avenue. One man was shot dead and one woman is fighting for her life.

Police say the shooting happened after a domestic dispute, and all three knew each other; police say two were dating.

According to police scanner recordings on Broadcastify, police arrived on the scene shortly after midnight Tuesday.

"Female. Gunshot wound. Lots of blood," said one officer over the scanner.

"Sounds like somebody's gasping for air," said another officer.

Police found 22-year-old Camron Malike Jones dead on the scene. One woman was also shot and is in serious condition.

"[Police] performed life-saving measures at that time until fire department medics arrived and transported the woman to the hospital," said police spokesperson Carrier Dungan. "She currently has serious injuries."

During this time, Dungan says the suspect, Wooding, tried to leave the scene.

"The man got in his vehicle and sped away from officers," said Dungan.

Wooding led police on a seven-minute chase.

"Threw something out the window. Possible gun," said an officer over the scanner while pursuing Wooding.

Police chased Wooding from Fort Avenue to Rivermont Avenue, where he was taken into custody.

Wooding is facing nearly a dozen charges, including first-degree murder, breaking and entering with intent to murder, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

As for what the department is doing about the rise in homicides this year, Dungan says, "Any time we see a rise in violent crime in one area, we are using our intelligence-led policing, conducting proactive patrol, as well as doing community policing, making sure we are engaging with residents to understand their true needs and what we can do to work together to make our community stronger."
