A driver accelerated when he got close to the spectators at the start of the Pride parade taking place in Wilton Manors on Saturday, as Fox News reports.

    What are the details?

The pickup driver allegedly pretended that he was part of the Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade. However, when he got close to the spectators he accelerated, crashing into the group, as stated by Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, according to WSVN-TV.

The authorities revealed that one of the victims passed away at the hospital because of the injuries.

The truck driver has been arrested after the incident. The officials did not give more details about how many people were injured and whether they believe the crash was intentional.

Trantalis said that in his opinion it was a ”deliberate” crash and also an attack targeting the LGBTQ community. Video surveillance and photos from the location showed Democratic U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in tears while in a convertible.

Wasserman Schultz stated on Saturday night that she was safe. However, she felt “deeply shaken and devastated.”

“I am so heartbroken by what took place at this celebration. May the memory be for a blessing,’ she added.
“All of a sudden there was a loud revving of a truck and a crash through a fence. It was definitely an intentional act right across the lanes of traffic,” Christina Currie, a spectator who had come with her family for the start of the parade, said for the South Florida SunSentinel.

The Wilton Manors police posted on social media on Saturday night that there is no danger for the public.

“Though authorities are still gathering information, we know two individuals marching to celebrate inclusion and equality were struck. This tragedy took place within feet of me and the Broward Sheriff’s Office team, and we are devastated having witnessed this incident,” the Wilton Manors authorities stated.

It was determined that this was a horrible accident not a terrorist attack. The Mayor should apologize for jumping to that conclusion about 10 minutes after it happened. Not very professional Mayor, you need to apologize.
