    6 Must Visit Picnic Spots in Metro Detroit

    Now that the warm weather is here, Michiganders are enjoying every possible second outside; the only other thing needed is a list of places to picnic outdoors. With restaurants offering a variety of take out options along with cocktials to-go, now is the time to enjoy the sunny days ahead while supporting a local business. Here is that list with a description of each place so you can quickly find the right one for your next picnic.

    Detroit Riverfront

    The riverfront right here in Detroit offers many beautiful locations along its 5 1⁄2 mile area to watch the river flow. Along with the view of the river, the view of Canada isn't too far away as you enjoy your meal. There are a number of parks and grass locations along this stretch from Ambassador Bridge to Gabriel Richard Park. There’s also a sandy beach, a children’s musical garden, and a community barbecue pavilion in this area, along with the option to rent a picnic shelter.     The Greening of Detroit - Lafayette Greens

    Right in the middle of downtown, you can find an urban garden which is a great place to sit and enjoy the outdoors and 360 degree view of the city. This spot is located right outside the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. The Greening of Detroit even is unique as they grows organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers here, so the surrounding environment is both vibrant and lush. The park also holds a farmers’ market at times. At this location you'll even have the choice of two different coney islands including Lafayette Coney Island or American Coney Island. Other food choices include the Hudson Cafe which offers amazing crepes or indulge in some red wine from House of Pure Vin.

    Campus Martius Park

    Campus Martius is one more well known locations of Downtown Detroit. This location has some of the best views of the amazing skyscrapers and people watching around the fountain. When the ice rink disappears after the winter, there is then room for dog-friendly yoga classes, a pop-up beach and more. Campus Martius is a prime location for amazing food along with the food trucks that are now back. Restaurants nearby include Parc, Calexico, Shake Shack, Central Kitchen + Bar plus so many other popular options.

    Beacon Park

    Beacon Park is one of the largest in Downtown Detroit. This park has vibrant art installations and year-round astroturf. On certain summer days families can play cornhole, putt-putt golf and other games here at this location. Along with these fun activities this is also a great location for a picnic. Stop at Lumen, a full-service restaurant and bar that anchors and overlooks the park. This restaurant has a variety of snacks that are perfect for an outdoor picnic.

    Palmer Park

    Palmer Park not only is a great place for a picnic, but after enjoying a delicious meal, you can even wander around the woodlands, enjoy the playground, bike down the trails or play a game of tennis. This park is big and has a ton of activity options so you can enjoy hours here at this location. Once you are here you might as well check out the cities favorites including beloved Dutch Girl Donuts and Cynt-Sensational Popcorn for delicious snacks.

    Innovation Hills

    Grab a pizza or Italian sub to go at the Original Buscemi's on your way to this picnic location at Innovation Hills. While this spot is still under some development, it truly is a great place to enjoy a summer day. Water sculptures, ponds, rivers and even a loop trail make up this location so their is options here beyond just a picnic.
