If you live in Kansas City, or are kind of close, and if you want a cat, today is your lucky day. We have five humdingers for your consideration, all available from local Kansas City shelters. Just click on the link in each cat's description to learn more about them and to get in touch with their shelter.
Sophie
First up is Sophie, a chubby black and white cat with two adorable dots on her cheeks. Coming from Great Plains SPCA, Dottie is a bit reserved and might take a minute to warm up to you. However, she is very affectionate once she gets to know you and loves being pet on her head. Oddly, she isn't a big fan of pets to the rest of her body, and she'd be just fine if you never picked her up. Like all of us, she's got likes and dislikes.
Dottie would be best in a home without small children or other pets. She's also declawed, in the front. The harm of declawing is well known, but adopting a cat already declawed can be attractive to some, like folks who spent too much on their furniture.
Molasses, giving his best Toonces impression, is next, from the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter (FOPAS). If you have dogs, keep scrolling. Molasses isn't a fan of dogs.
Molasses comes from a litter where all the kittens were named after cookies. All of his sweet siblings have since been adopted, but little Molasses still waits for his family to find him. At five months old, he is full of spunk and would be happiest in a household with other cats he can romp around with.
His favorite things in life are cat condos, shiny toys, catnip, and being held like a baby. Can you imagine the pure joy of having this guy purring in your arms?
No need to imagine--you can fill out a pre-adoption application form here and turn that cozy dream into a reality. There's no obligation to filling out the form if Molasses turns out to be a little too sweet for your taste.
Ron
Next up is Ron, a little kitten with enormous ears. Meowy Matchmakers has a bounty of big-eared babies right now--they must be siblings. Here is a picture of Ron with his likely brothers, Dobby and one-eyed Harry, who was featured here last week:
Ron is a sweetheart who loves to cuddle and is quick to purr--you'll certainly fall in love if you set up a meet and greet. If you're interested, you can do get that ball rolling here.
Valentina
This part-Siamese beauty, Valentina, is brought to us by The Animal Rescue Alliance. Even though she looks like an old soul, she's only about two-years-old and was found with a litter of kittens. They might have been hers, or she might have just been babysitting. Who knows. Regardless, she's good with human children and human adults too--she loves people. She greets her foster mom at the door when she comes home and enjoys being picked up and cuddled, unlike picky Sophie, above. Sophie does have those dots though--it's a tough choice.
Talking about cute cats, we're ending with Jameson, a winsome little kitten with a heart of orange. He was bottle-fed as a baby, so he's a real socialite who shouldn't have any trouble making friends with your house's humans. He also lives around a big dog and other cats, so he should be fast friends with your animal family too--unless they're jerks (no offense to your pets if they are). In fact, as a kitten, it'd be ideal if you already had another kitten, or a cat, for him to chum around with. Cats Pawjamas will happily hook you up if need a friend for Jameson.
