I have to say, I love public parks. I'm always on the lookout for safe places to sit and enjoy nice weather, grab some decent food, and shop locally. Washington Park, right in the middle of Over the Rhine (OTR), is a great place to do all of these things. We recently stumbled upon a flea market while visiting and had a great time looking through all the unique items the vendors were selling.

The park also hosted quite a few food trucks for the event, but we got there a bit too late to enjoy them. Here's my go-to list for what to do at Washington Park!

Look at the Upcoming Activities Board on their Website

This may seem obvious, but my boyfriend and I didn't know the park had a full list of upcoming events, planned out many months in advance. You can view the full list of events here. They host group workout sessions on the green, concerts, cinema experiences, flea markets, and all sorts of other events.

The flea market almost always has food trucks, too, which make them a great way to spend an afternoon shopping and snacking. My absolute favorite restaurant, Boom Box Buns (see review), is within walking distance if you have room for another delicious snack.

    The Porch Experience

The porch is exactly what it sounds like. It's an incredibly large porch with a roof to keep you nice and dry when it rains during events. They also have a bar and drinks area to grab snacks from, but you don't need to buy anything to sit on the porch. The line for the porch bar is typically huge, and you'll find far better drinks and food by walking around Over the Rhine.

We like to bring our food finds here and enjoy the nice weather while watching whatever event is currently going on at the green. There are also some beautiful fountains and in-ground water displays to look at in the distance, but it's usually very busy over there as many people use them to cool down in the summer months.

    Final thoughts

Washington Park has a large green where anyone can enjoy a nice picnic and a variety of events put on by the park. There is a parking deck right under the park, so you won't need to walk very far at all to get there. Parking is typically $4 for two hours, but it varies depending on events and day of the week. You can view prices here.

We always enjoy coming to Washington Park after grabbing some snacks in OTR. There are plenty of events to attend if you look at the event schedule in advance, and the porch bar is almost always open. Come check out Washington Park and OTR!
