Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon, one of the 50 oldest races in the country, will return to downtown Cleveland from October 23 to 24, while a virtual race will be held on May 15 and 16 for participants who prefer an online event.

The executive director of the marathon, Jack Staph, is excited for the return of the in-person race as he welcomes the runners and volunteers that had been patiently waiting for the marathon to take place.

"We are thrilled to have a date for our in-person event and can’t wait to welcome our runners, volunteers, and spectators back to Cleveland,” said Staph.

He added that the organization has been working closely with the health officials at the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, and the State of Ohio since last summer. The committee will ensure that the health and safety of the participants are their top priorities as they continue to work with their medical partner, University Hospitals Sports Medicine.

The race will observe several health protocols to achieve that goal. Including social distancing at the start, during the race, as well as on the finish lines. Participants will be obliged to wear masks at the start and finish lines, along with the mandated use of hand sanitizers before entering the race track.

The route of the marathon has not been finalized yet, but the team is closely working with the city to ensure the best route is taken.

Registration is now open for Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, Kids’ Run, and Challenge Series via its website: www.clevelandmarathon.com. For more information regarding updates, health, and safety protocol, please visit the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon's social media channels.
