Qinxuan Pan is being held in Alabama for extradition to Connecticut.

US Marshals in the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and in the Middle District of Alabama along with Montgomery City Police have arrested fugitive MIT researcher Qinxuan Pan who is wanted in Connecticut for the February murder of Yale graduate student Kevin Jiang, age 26.

An international arrest warrant (an Interpol warrant or “red notice” which asks member countries to arrest the person named) for murder and second-degree larceny was issued for Pan as he is a US resident with roots in Shanghai, where he was born.

He is accused of shooting Jiang multiple times on February 6 on a street in New Haven. Marshals also had a $10,000 bounty on Pan’s head.

Investigators have been mum on motive in this case as of right now. Jiang was a graduate student at Yale’s School of the Environment. He was also an Army veteran who was engaged to be married shortly before his murder. Pan reportedlycrossed paths” several times with Jiang’s fiancée.

The little bit of the crime the Marshals have spoken about is rather bizarre. They allege Qinxuan stole an SUV in Malden, Massachusetts where he lived and drove to New Haven where he allegedly ran into Jiang, who was found lying outside his car in a pool of blood from several gunshot wounds.
