I think one of the most difficult things about being a content creator on instagram is creating that perfectly aesthetic and beautifully cohesive feed. If you think about it, no other social media platform really requires that much effort in terms of making your content aesthetic. However instagram is definitely tricky in that way!

Now, I’m not saying you need to have a perfectly aesthetic and cohesive feed in order to be “good” at instagram or grow on instagram. BUT just in case you want to have that beautiful feed that is so popular right now on ig, I thought I’d share my top tips and tricks to creating the ~perfect~ feed.

Take your photos in the same (or similar locations).

One of the easiest ways to create cohesion among your instagram photos is to take them all in the same place. Whether you have a designated space in your home where you take photos, or you have an outdoor location that is your designated space to take photos.

This will give all of your photos the same colors in the background, so they will all look very similar in terms of aesthetic. Even if you don’t use the exact same background in every single photo - as long as it’s similar in color - your feed will look perfectly in sync.

Use the same editing process or filters/presets on all of your photos.

This is such an easy way to get a similar look and feel to all of your photos - with minimal effort. Use the same filters/ presets/ edits on all of your photos. This is probably my favorite way to create my own aesthetic feed on instagram. Occasionally I use several of these tips together, but for the most part the filter is what does it for me!

But like I said this is definitely the easiest way to create cohesion. Whether you take all of your photos in the same locations, or you like to just take photos on the go - wherever you are, adding the same filter will give all of your photos a similar vibe. I’ve used apps like VSCO, Lightroom, and even the edits function on the iphone camera app itself. But to be completely honest, lightroom is my absolute favorite. There are so many presets (both paid for and free!) out there that are so easy to apply to your photos and create a beautiful aesthetic instantly.

Choose a color theme and stick to it.

Now this next tip definitely takes a lot more planning and thought, then simply adding a filter or taking all of your photos in the same spots. So many instagram feeds that only include one color (or a select couple of colors) just look SO pretty and aesthetic. Definitely think about your vibe, and aesthetic, and what colors of clothing you own a lot of. If you love pink - include pink in all of your photos. If you’ve got tons of pastels - create a dreamy feed and include pastel colors in all of your photos.

Alternate between detailed photos and non-detailed photos.

Another thing I love to do in order to create a perfect feed is alternating between different types of photos. Posting a combination of close-up photos and non close-ups will add interest to your feed, making it perfectly aesthetic. For close up detailed photos I like to post flatlays, details of my outfits, selfies, product photos, and more. Then for the non-detailed and non-close ups I like to post full body and outfit photos.

You can do different patterns of alternating photos, whether it’s every other photo, or what I do, which is mostly full body shots, with detailed close-up shots sprinkled in sporadically. It gives your feed a break from the non-detailed shots and just looks great!

    Use a planning app.

And of course you can’t get the beautiful aesthetic and cohesive feed without some planning! I absolutely love to use planning apps to plan out my feed. It’s a great way to actually see how your feed is going to look, and drag and drop photos around to make sure that you are getting all your shots in just the perfect order.

There are tons of free apps that allow you to plan out your feed so easily, but the two that I typically use are called Preview and The Grid. Other popular planning apps are Plann, UNUM, and Planoly. They all pretty much do the same things, some may have some other cool features, but essentially I just use these apps to arrange my photos and plan out my feed.

Use an app to edit your photos.

And my last tip to create a perfect feed is to edit your photos. Now I’m not talking about the filters or presets I mentioned in my tip above. In these edits, I am talking photoshop-type edits to edit colors in your photos in order to make them fit into your feed better. I know photoshop is not free (or particularly easy to use if you don’t already know how).

But don’t worry because there are lots of other apps that are super easy to use and edit your photos with. First is Picsart - there is a free version available that has SO many cool features. You can add stickers, change colors, and do all kinds of cool edits with this app. Another great app is Procreate. While it does cost money - it’s only $10 for the ipad version and $5 for the iphone version. This app is super easy to use and again, you can use it for all kinds of edits to your photos.

These apps are great for editing colors into your photos. For example if you have a pink color themed feed, and you’ve got a gorgeous photo of yourself in front of a blank white wall, you can use either of these apps to change the color of the wall from white to pink. Or you can even add a cute fun pink design (like pink hearts or butterflies), to make the photo match your feed perfectly!
