(ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.) A North Carolina judge ruled Wednesday that body camera footage related to the fatal police shooting of Andrew Brown Jr. will not be released publicly but will be allowed to be viewed by the victim's family and one of their legal representatives, according to CNN.

However, the recordings will not be allowed to be copied or shown to the public.

The judge's ruling came a day after an independent medical examiner said police shot Brown five times, including once in the head on Wednesday.

Authorities said sheriff's deputies shot Brown while trying to execute a search warrant for drug charges outside of his home. Police found no weapons or drugs in Brown’s house or car.

The shooting has prompted days of protest in Elizabeth City, with the 42-year-old's family and demonstrators calling for the public release of the video.

Seven sheriff’s deputies were placed on administrative leave after the killing, and the FBI has launched an investigation.

Mayor Bettie Parker announced a state of emergency on Monday due to the protests.

"We're usually a kind of quiet town, and we're just sometimes playing stuff by ear because we've just never had something like this before," Parker said. "We've got to do some healing here because people are hurt."
