(AUSTIN, Texas) After President Joe Biden announced new executive actions on gun laws Thursday, Governor Greg Abbott vowed to make Texas a “2nd Amendment Sanctuary State."

Biden's orders mainly focus on "ghost guns," which are homemade firearms that lack serial numbers that can be used to trace them, and often purchased without a background check, according to The Associated Press. Gov. Abbott went to Twitter, stating this will not be allowed in Texas, and that Texas will be a sanctuary state, which would prevent state resources to enforce any new federal restrictions on firearms and ammunition.

On Tuesday, the State Affairs Committee in the Texas House approved House Bill 2622, called the Second Amendment Sanctuary State Act, which would prevent state resources to enforce any new federal restrictions on firearms and ammunition. This legislation mirrors similar bills that have previously passed in Alaska, Kansas, Idaho, Wyoming and Arizona, according to The El Paso Times.

Biden's orders come after a mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado, where 10 people were killed at a King Soopers supermarket in March.

Later that day that Abbott sent out his announcement on Twitter, a mass shooting occurred in Bryan, Texas at a local cabinet store, leaving one dead and five injured.

Abbott tweeted his condolences to the victim of the shootings.
