(TRENTON, N.J.) New Jersey Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman said on Monday that she tested positive for COVID-19 in the aftermath of the Capitol Hill riot and subsequent House member lockdown on January 6.

The 75-year-old cancer survivor said she believes she was exposed during protective isolation in the U.S. Capitol building as a result of the riots, according to ABC 7.

"I received a positive test result for COVID-19, and am home resting at this time," Coleman said. "While I am experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms, I remain in good spirits and will continue to work on behalf of my constituents."

This positive diagnosis follows a warning from Dr. Brian Moynihan, the Capitol’s attending physician, that lawmakers might have been exposed due to a positive diagnosis in the room.

The AP reports Moynihan wrote that “many members of the House community were in protective isolation in the large room — some for several hours” on Wednesday.

A number of members in hiding were not wearing maks, despite instructions to wear one.

Watson Coleman received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID19 vaccine. Officials said she is isolating and awaiting the results of PCR testing.
