Police in Lexington, Ky., on Thursday arrested a man outside of the University of Kentucky's Chandler Hospital after being tipped off by nearby authorities that a possibly armed and dangerous man was coming to the premises.

NBC News and local news affiliate WKYT reported that a man identified as Bryan Carroll was arrested at the hospital without incident; police told reporters that he had multiple weapons and body armor on his person, and they found "suspected explosive devices" in his vehicle.

“He will be charged with multiple state charges as well as pending federal charges,” said University of Kentucky Police Chief Joe Monroe, according to NBC.

"[W]e took an individual that could be deemed as armed and dangerous into custody very quickly, efficiently and without any harm to anyone, including himself,” Monroe added.

University of Kentucky police, Lexington city police, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were all on the scene, according to police.

Officers from nearby Versailles, Ky., where Carroll reportedly lives, informed Lexington police of Carroll's planned arrival, according to WKYT.

Lexington residents were asked to avoid the Chandler Hospital emergency room while the scene was still active, according to WKYT, but the hospital has reportedly since given the all-clear and resumed normal operations.

News of the arrest of Carroll without incident comes as the nation is reeling from mass shootings in Atlanta and Boulder, Colo. Democratic lawmakers have renewed pushes for stricter gun legislation after the attacks, though their legislation faces an uphill battle in the evenly-divided Senate.
