Aquidneck Island National Police Parade held today

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — The annual Aquidneck Island National Police Parade stepped off in Newport on Sunday afternoon.

The event honors the more than 130 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2023 and in years past.

The parade began in Middletown, then headed into Newport before ending at Washington Square.

More than 30 police departments and over 10 different bands are scheduled to attend.

Among those being honored are Hartford Police Detective Robert Garten, Waltham Police Officer Paul Tracey and Connecticut State Police K9 Broko.

12 News anchors Kait Walsh and Patrick Little, meteorologist T.J. Del Santo and traffic reporter Melissa Sardelli also took part in the parade.
