41st River and Rails Bass Festival underway in St. Marys
ST. MARYS, W.Va. (WTAP) - The River and Rails Bass Festival is coming back to St. Marys for its 41st year. The festival begins Friday and will last through Sunday evening. According to president of the festival’s board of directors, Marissa Gutierrez, the event will include food trucks to satisfy a plethora of cuisines.
Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame class of 2024 enshrined
VIENNA — Prominent sports figures from around the Mid-Ohio Valley gathered on Saturday at the Grand Pointe Convention Center to induct the class of 2024. The loaded class included Bryan Canterbury (Jackson County), Michael Cox (Pleasants County), Janet Frazier (Wirt County), H. Dugan Hill (Noble County), Megan McCauley (Washington County), David Mossor (Ritchie County), Rod O’Donnell (Washington County), Timothy Phillips (Wood County), Fred Sauro (Wood County) and Jim Wharton (Wood County).
Pressing Forward: Marietta building receives undisclosed amount of funding for facelift
MARIETTA — An historic building in Marietta recently received funding to redevelop it into office, retail and residential space. Ataraxia Properties Inc. received funding in late May from Appalachian Community Capital through its Opportunity Appalachia program for a project to renovate the Glass Press Building located in Marietta, according to Ataraxia President Grant Schneider.
Marietta Main Street June First Friday’s theme: Downtown Art Walk

Marietta Community Foundation celebrates 50 years, issues awards
MARIETTA — A crowd gathered together in May to celebrate an organization that has been helping Washington County residents for 50 years. The Marietta Community Foundation hosted a 50th anniversary celebration at the Adelphia Music Hall on the evening of May 30 and it was attended by community leaders, donors, volunteers and residents to honor 50 years of philanthropic work in Washington County, according to an MCF release.
Picture This: Civitan Park pond repairs get underway
BELPRE — The city of Belpre began work in mid-May to repair and restore the Civitan Park Pond after years of leaks. The work is being funded by an Ohio Department of Development grant for $100,000 which the city received in early May. The city is also planning to replace the fountain which was once located in the middle. Officials hope to have the project completed by the end of June. (Photos by Art Smith)

* Belpre City Schools’ Enzo Astorga may have been done with national competition after the first round of the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee, but he says he has been inspired to keep trying for another trip for the event’s 100th anniversary next year. From exploring Washington, D.C. (and the Museum of Illusions), to simply being among the 244 participants who formed lifelong memories during the trip, Enzo said he had a really good time during Bee Week. How wonderful to be able to learn, have fun, dive into our nation’s capital AND come away with a fresh determination to do it all again next year. Well done, Enzo!
