Seth Gamble was recently named outstanding student at the Ohio State University Wooster campus.

He graduated from Newcomerstown High School and Buckeye Career Center in 2022. He then set out to earn a degree in construction systems management OSU Wooster , also known as Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI). The choice to pursue this program was influenced by an instructor at Buckeye Career Center.

"His recommendation, coupled with my passion for construction nurtured at the trade school, steered me towards office and management roles within the industry. Another big influence on my pursuit of the construction field is its implications in ministry and missions work. Giving God glory through such work is something I do not simply have a passion for, but rather it is the core that I try to build all else in my life around," Gamble said.

"Excelling academically while actively engaging in community initiatives underscored my dedication to not only mastering my major but also making a positive impact beyond the classroom. Multiple teachers recognized and endorsed me not only for my academics but also for my leadership," Gamble said. On campus he has served as treasurer and secretary with PTK Honor Society, library assistant, student activities assistant, and peer tutor.

"However, in my opinion, the much more influential role I served to the campus community was aiding in the on-campus Bible Study. It is not about what I did in that function that makes it significant, but what God did in spite of imperfect college students simply because we with simple faith submitted to His calling and moving.

"I would be remiss to mention that of the 18 Outstanding Students, one is chosen for the Director’s Award. Although a more deserving candidate whom I am very proud of ultimately earned the award, it was in and of itself a great honor to have been one of three interviewed as a finalist for the award in addition to the great honor of being chosen one of the 18 Outstanding Students.”

The Newcomerstown Band Boosters will host a car, truck, and motorcycle show May 19 at 1 Woody Hayes Drive. Registration is from 1 to 3 p.m., and the event will take place rain or shine. Awards will be presented at 5 p.m. There will be food and music. For more information, call Corey Rehard at 740-623-1021.

Caleb Bradley, director of bands for the district said the event is to raise money for new band uniforms, "and the fundraiser is vital to our goal of purchasing new uniforms for the band. We have an estimated cost of around $55,000 to acquire everything we need. This includes jackets, pants, hats, storage for all items and much more. We want to be able to fundraise as much as we can to help offset costs. We will also have a side-by-side comparison of our current uniforms we are using to the hopefully new ones we are going to purchase. We are fortunate enough that the company we are going through sent us a free demo uniform so that we can make sure the quality and the colors match to our liking and to represent our school district well. Sponsors for the event are Boltaron of Newcomerstown and the Kenslee J. Brandon Memorial Fund."
