2 uninjured in Social Circle plane crash
SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. - Two people walked away from a single-engine plane crash uninjured in Social Circle on Tuesday. The Cessna Skyhawk took off from Athens-Ben Epps Airport just after 2:30 p.m., according to FlightAware.com, and landed at the Sleepy Hollow Airport, a private air strip in Social Circle at 3 p.m.

Boat destroyed by early morning fire in Monroe on Monday
MONROE, GA (Dec. 4, 2023) Monroe Fire Chief Andrew Dykes reported that Monroe Fire and Walton County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire in the 900 block of Horizon Ct. The crews were dispatched just after 7 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.
Suspect in the murder of a Social Circle woman has been arrested
UPDATE: On Nov. 30, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office announced that the US Marshals Service, with assistance from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Corey Jackson, age 41, who is charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection to the October 30th death of Natasha Billings.
Once again lithium batteries cause fires in garbage trucks
For the third time, one of Peach State Disposal’s garbage trucks caught fire while out and about. And once again, it was because of a battery. Ron Miller, president of Peach State Disposal, said all the recent garbage truck fires are the result of improper disposal of lithium batteries — the type of rechargeable batteries found in laptops, cell phones and other electric devices.

Athens man sees flash in sky about time of loud explosion in Walton County
An Athens man may have seen a strange aerial phenomenon that caused a mysterious explosion that was heard across southern Walton County a week ago. The explosion or enormous boom sound was heard across the county from Walnut Grove to Good Hope on the late afternoon of Nov. 26, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
