Trees coming down, $350,000 payment from Pentland received
Trees on Newberry Avenue in the three downtown blocks will be cut down on Sunday, April 28 pending permit approval from the Michigan Department of Transportation. The item was discussed at the April meeting of the Newberry Village Council held on Tuesday, April 16. Removing the trees, which have damaged downtown sidewalks, has been long discussed at village council meetings.

Pentland vs Newberry water fight is over
The years-long sewer litigation between Pentland Township and the Village of Newberry has ended. Honorable John Economopoulos, Circuit Court Judge, signed the final order of consent on March 20. The settlement agreement between the two municipalities was approved on March 14 at a special meeting of the Newberry Village Council. It had been a major topic at Newberry Village and Pentland board meetings for more than four years.

Want to spend a day as a wildlife biologist? Seney National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a BioBlitz on Saturday, April 20 and the public—especially those interested in photography and citizen science—is invited to participate. Anyone who is interested in participating in this project is asked to meet at the Temporary Visitors Center located at 1986 River Road in Germfask by 9 a.m. An orientation will be provided for participants before staff take groups out onto the refuge. The event continues until 3 p.m., when participants will meet back at the Temporary Visitors Center to share their findings.
