    Roundup: Licking Valley softball sweeps Newark

    Abbe McNabb racked up 16 strikeouts and allowed three earned runs Saturday, pitching the Licking Valley softball team to a 12-7 victory at Newark in the first game of a doubleheader. The Panthers (17-8) also beat the Wildcats (8-13) 11-4 to complete a sweep.

    Taylor Penick and D’Neya Dennis each doubled twice and combined for seven hits, three runs and five RBIs from the first two spots in the order in the first game, and Addison Justice added three hits, including a triple, three runs and an RBI and Hailey Small two hits and two runs for the Panthers. Lexi Shanaberg totaled four hits, including two doubles, a run and two RBIs for the Wildcats, and Mallory Back added two hits and a run and Lauren Queen a double and three RBIs.

    Liz Korns totaled three hits, including two doubles, and two runs and Justice and Zoey Shaw two hits, a run and an RBI apiece for the Panthers in the second game, and Rylee Pitt struck out four in 6⅓ innings. Shanaberg had two hits, a run and an RBI, Paige Simons two hits and an RBI and Lillyana Holmes a hit and a run for the Wildcats, and Amora Spring allowed one earned run in 3⅓ innings of relief.

    Granville wins at home

    Megan Lodge homered and doubled, finishing 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBIs for Granville in a 7-0 victory against visiting Indian Valley.

    Sophia Patena added three hits, a run and two RBIs, Emily Travis a double, a run and an RBI and Maia Helling a hit and two runs for the Blue Aces (23-3). Ally Ernsberger struck out six in a six-inning two-hit shutout.

    Watkins splits

    Watkins Memorial beat Lebanon 10-4 before dropping its first game, 9-8 at Miamisburg.

    Alli Langwasser tripled and doubled twice, driving in three runs in the win for the top-ranked Warriors (25-1), and Jordyn Wycuff added two hits, two runs and an RBI, Ava McKee a hit, a run and two RBIs and Carlie Taggart and Kylie Trouten a hit, a run and an RBI apiece. Carsyn Cassady struck out 14, surpassing 1,000 for her career, and allowed one earned run.

    Taggart had three hits, and she and Maleya Thompson each homered in the loss. Kendal Tellings and Gracie Gerhardt added two hits and a run apiece with Tellings knocking in two.

    Liberty drops two

    Visiting Liberty Christian fell 12-7 and 24-11 to the Bexley JV.

    Carolee Marcum was 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs in the first game for the Eagles, and Christsha Hunley-Wiggins added three hits and an RBI and Alissa Windle two hits and a run. Marcum homered in the second game, piling up three more hits, three runs and four RBIs, and Audrey Soliday added three hits and two runs and Cara Denlinger two hits, two runs and an RBI.

    BASEBALL

    GCA wraps up title

    Bentley Johnson struck out eight and allowed a run in six two-hit innings, pitching Granville Christian to a 5-1 victory at Liberty Christian to win an outright Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League championship.

    Andrew Benvie struck out two in a hitless seventh, and he also recorded two hits, including a triple, and an RBI for the Lions (13-3, 11-1). Jake Fabbro added a double, a run and an RBI, Josh Benvie a hit and two runs and Wes Arnholt a hit and a run.

    Mason Kamppi doubled and scored for the Eagles (7-10, 3-7), and Luke Mollohan singled. Evan Dupler struck out nine in five innings.

    Newark wins on road

    Moses Crane’s three-run home run capped a five-run sixth inning, powering Newark to a 7-2 victory at Bloom-Carroll.

    Blane Sturm added a double, a run and an RBI, Dakota Foltz a single, a run and an RBI and Tyler Flint a double and an RBI for the Wildcats (15-7). Evan Humphrey allowed three hits and two runs in 4⅔ innings, and Foltz struck out one in 2⅓ hitless innings of relief.

    Watkins blanks Gahanna

    Cole Massie struck out seven and allowed five hits in 4⅔ innings, and his twin brother Chase Massie struck out three to complete an eight-hit shutout, pitching Watkins Memorial to a 2-0 victory against visiting Gahanna.

    Bradley Vincent doubled and scored a run for the Warriors (14-7), and Andrew Botts and Aydan Guthrie each singled.

    Valley falls

    Hayden Rodgers and Brody Lambert recorded two hits apiece for Licking Valley in a 6-2 loss to Hiland at Don Edwards Park.

    Charlie Facemire struck out two and allowed just an unearned run in two hitless innings of relief for the Panthers (17-3).
