Black Bear Back in Montclair
A black bear roaming around Essex County was back in Montclair, spotted Saturday night. The bear visited a Highland Avenue home below Mills Reservation. Around 8 p.m. Saturday, the bear climbed onto the deck of Debbie Cohen’s home. Cohen tells Montclair Local the bear tried to open the bird feeder but was unsuccessful and left. She also said the bear has a white patch on its neck.

New York City resident John Huff dies in motorcycle crash on I-90 in Auburn, Mass.
A New York City resident was killed in a motorcycle crash on I-90 in Massachusetts Sunday afternoon, according to Massachusetts State Police. Queens resident John Huff, 64, crashed on the highway in Auburn around 4 p.m., state police said in a press release. Initial information suggests that Huff was riding a Harley Davidson east on the road when — for reasons still unclear to investigators — he lost control of the motorcycle and veered to the right.

Paterson’s summer policing plan: increased patrols and community parties with cops
PATERSON — City police officers will be stationed at Paterson’s parks on weekends under a new summer public safety strategy unveiled on Friday. The plan covers enforcement strategies, such as increasing the number of cops at crime hotspots and reassigning officers from desk duty to street patrols, as well as community relations programs, including an “Anti-Violence Day of Play” in each of Paterson’s six wards during the summer.

NEW YORK (PIX11) — It was a stormy end to the holiday weekend as a cold front swept across the tri-state region. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued Monday afternoon and continued into the evening for New York City and points west. The atmosphere was primed for producing storms that could contain damaging winds along with drenching downpours. Another round of rain could move in late on Wednesday and it may linger into Thursday with the passage of another frontal boundary.
