Vivienne A. (Aramando) Miele of Totowa, formerly of Montclair and Bloomfield, died on April 23, 2024. She was 75. Mrs. Miele worked at Illusions Hair Salon in Montclair. She is survived by her daughter, Gina Miele Torres, and her husband, Daniel; by her grandson, Daniel Torres; granddaughter, Giavanna Torres; sister, Cynthia Aramando; brother, Sam Aramando; sister-in-law, Marylou Aramando, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Montclair: Cyber Attackers Accessed Some Residents’ Social Security Numbers
The Township of Montclair recently sent a disturbing letter to some Montclair residents, detailing how personal financial information, including Social Security numbers, were accessed during the June 2023 cyber attack. According to the letter, the Township only became aware of this data breach last month. The Township, in the letter, offers no explanation as to why residents are being informed now, some nine months after the data had been accessed.

Council Approves Senior Center Lease; HUB Tenants Include YMCA and MFEE
Montclair Township Council voted 6-0 Wednesday to approve a lease for over 4100 square feet of space dedicated to a Montclair senior center. It was the second reading of the ordinance introduced on April 10. The council voted to authorize Michael Lapolla, the interim town manager, to execute the lease between Township of Montclair and the Placek Family Foundation, the owners of 60 South Fullerton Avenue, the historic Mills Building. The lease start date is December 1, 2024.
NJ Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. Dies at 65
Rep. Donald Payne, Jr., has died at the age of 65 from medical complications. He was a six term congressman who represented New Jersey’s 10th congressional district. Payne served in Congress since 2012 after winning a special election to succeed his father following his death. His father, Donald Milford Payne, was the first Black congressman to represent the state and served in the seat from 1989 until his death in 2012. Payne Jr. created a legacy of his own in his12 in office.

Montclair Flag Football Making Big Strides in Second Season
Montclair High School flag football might have lost its latest contest in tough fashion, but the Mounties have come a long way from their initial voyage last season. While Montclair dropped a 19-12 decision to Nutley at home at Woodman Field on Tuesday (April 23), the Mounties had won their previous two contests, 35-6 over Union City on April 16 and 30-0 over Dickinson on April 19. The two victories have already matched the win total for the entire 2023 season where Montclair went 2-5.

Valley Road Clothing Store Burglarized, Police Say
On Monday at approximately 6:30 a.m., a pedestrian walking on Valley Road discovered someone shattered the front window of Nouvelle & One Savvy Design. Responding officers arrived and determined a burglary occurred during the overnight hours. The owners arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed the burglary and that a number of high end designer bags were missing. Surveillance footage shows a silver-colored sedan arriving at the business at approximately 1:48 a.m. Four individuals exit the vehicle and force entry into the business using a window punch tool. The individuals proceed to gather several designer handbags and flee the scene at 1:51 a.m. This incident is currently under investigation.
