Former New Jersey Devils interim head coach Travis Green has officially moved on.

On Tuesday, the Ottawa Senators announced that Green would be their next head coach. The organization will hold a press conference introducing Green at a time that has yet to be confirmed.

On May 5, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen reported that Green was a "serious" and "legitimate" candidate for the Senators and had "as good a shot as anybody." He cited that the belief was Green met with the Senators organization twice.

Ottawa relieved D. J. Smith of his head coaching duties on Dec. 18. Jacques Martin was named interim head coach to finish the 2023-24 season. The Senators completed the campaign seventh in the Atlantic Division with a record of 37-41-4.

Green expressed interest in becoming New Jersey's full-time head coach when he met with the media in mid-April. Still, during his end-of-season media availability, Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald spoke about finding the right candidate to lead his team next season.

"I owe it to the organization that I scour the coaching world for who I believe would be the perfect coach for this group moving forward for what's available out there," Fitzgerald said. "(Green) checks a lot of boxes. I think he's a no-nonsense head coach. I think he's very open. Players know where he stands and his thoughts. And that's important. But it's my responsibility to make sure no stone is left unturned."

Green was hired as New Jersey's associate coach on June 22, 2023, replacing Andrew Brunette, who departed for Nashville. He was elevated to interim head coach after the organization fired Lindy Ruff in early March. Green earned a record of 8-12-1 in the team's final 21 games of the season.

It has been reported that the Devils have interviewed several candidates for their vacancy behind the bench, including Craig Berube and Todd McLellan.

New Jersey will continue to review candidates and work towards filling its position by the 2024 NHL Draft at the end of June.
