As the 2024 MET Gala swiftly approaches, we're casting our eyes over the famous faces who will never grace the steps of this glamorous event again - from banned celebrities to those boycotting in protest.

One of New York City's biggest social events is set to return to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Vogue's editor-in-chief and event planner, Anna Wintour, has made it clear that there's one celebrity she'll never permit through the MET doors again - former President Donald Trump .

While no other individual has been explicitly banned for life, a lengthy list of celebrities are rumoured to be off the guest list permanently after publicly criticizing the event, reports the Mirror US .

    Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump is the sole celebrity that Anna has confirmed will never be welcome at her Met Gala again. Despite his numerous appearances at the event over the years, Anna has confirmed that he won't be attending the hottest party of the year again following his contentious term in office.

In October 2017, Anna divulged the news during an on-air game of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts with late-night host James Corden. During the high-stakes game, celebrities are posed with a series of challenging questions that they must either answer or resort to consuming a bowl of pickled pig feet.

In the game, Anna was pressured to reveal which of her famous guests she would not invite back to the Met Gala , to which she promptly replied " Donald Trump " and was met with a round of applause from Corden.

    Demi Lovato

Pop singer Demi Lovato is another famous face that will likely never grace the event again after openly criticizing the event, describing the night as a "terrible experience" that nearly caused her to break her sobriety. The Heart Attack hitmaker attended the gala back in 2016, which she later opened up about two years later.

In an interview with Billboard, Demi dished: "I had a terrible experience. This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink."

Demi continued to reveal that she immediately booked it to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting following the event to curb her urge to drink. She admitted: "I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on - millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting. And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala ."

    Gwyneth Paltrow

Goop creator Gwyneth Paltrow has been candid about her less-than-stellar experience at the Met Gala , confessing that the event didn't live up to her expectations.

Speaking to USA Today in 2013, Gwyneth disclosed: "Do you want me to be honest? It sucked," and elaborated: "It seems like it's the best thing in the world, you always think, 'Oh, my God, it's gonna be so glamorous and amazing and you're going to see all these people,' and then you get there and it's so hot and it's so crowded and everyone's pushing you."

She further described the gala as "so un-fun," "boiling" and "too crowded". The actress said she "did not enjoy it at all."

Despite her strong critique and a promise to "never go again" Gwyneth was seen attending the high-profile New York City affair in both 2017 and 2019.

    Tina Fey

Meanwhile, comedian Tina Fey has also sworn off the Met Gala after her 2010 appearance, which she later referred to as a "jerk parade."

Five years on, she humorously mentioned that she's still in hot water with her husband for making him accompany her to the glitzy bash.

During her appearance on The Late Show, the ex-Mean Girls sensation said: "If you had a million arms and all the people you would punch in the whole world, they're all there.

"It's just every jerk from every walk of life is there wearing some stupid thing. You walk up these huge steps

"And I went and I dragged my husband [Jeff Richmond] along with me too, which I'm still in trouble for."

    Lili Reinhart

Actress Lili Reinhart, who graced the Met Gala in 2022, has indicated she won't be returning after vocally criticising Kim Kardashian for the message she sent to fans at the event.

At the gala, Kardashian donned the iconic Marilyn Monroe 'Happy Birthday Mr. President' dress, revealing she had undergone an extreme diet to fit into it. The former Riverdale star expressed outrage at the harmful precedent set by the high-profile figure, taking to Instagram Stories to voice her opinion.

Reinhart, known for her role in Look Both Ways, posted: "To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala . When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is other-worldly disgusting."

Lili later reflected on the incident, conceding she's unlikely to be on the guest list for future events. Speaking to W Magazine, she said: "I don't think I'll be invited back. I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress."

Beyond this roster of celebs, there's also a slew of others who've aired their grievances and biting critiques of the glitzy bash, including fashion maven Rachel Zoe, funnywoman Amy Schumer, scribe Tim Gunn, crooner Zayn Malik, among others.
