We will have a new Stanley Cup Champion after the Dallas Stars eliminated the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 7. The New York Rangers took Game 1 at home over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Special teams were the difference maker in this game. The Rangers went 2-2 on the power play while the Hurricanes finished 0-5. The first period finished with the Rangers up 3-1 and they never looked back. It was a scoreless second period before the Hurricanes pulled themselves one goal closer. Artemi Panarin had the response and the insurance goal proved to be vital. When the Hurricanes last played the Rangers in the playoffs they went 0-3 at Madison Square Garden. They'll need to win a way to win on the road to win this series.

Each game in this series was decided by one goal with an empty net goal occasionally. Entering Game 7, nothing could separate these teams. The Stars jumped out to a 1-0 in the first thanks to 20-year-old Wyatt Johnston's fourth goal of the series. Brett Howden tied the game in the second period off of a pretty passing sequence. Early in the third period, Radek Faksa roofed a backhand to give the Stars the lead. Faksa hadn't played since Game 2 with an injury. Jake Oettinger and the Stars shut down the Golden Knights in the third period and have advanced to the second round to play the Colorado Avalanche.

The Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers kick off their series tonight in Florida. It's a rematch of the first round in the previous season where the Panthers came back from a 3-1 series deficit.
