An 88-year-old woman was critically injured overnight during a fire at a four-story apartment building in East Flatbush, neighbors say.

The fire at 1084 New York Avenue between Tilden Avenue and Beverly Road was called in around 4:25 a.m.

It was under control by 5:07 a.m., according to the FDNY.

They say a civilian was taken in critical condition to Staten Island University Hospital North.

A firefighter was taken to a hospital with a minor injury. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The family of the apparent 88-year-old victim says she was sleeping at the time of the incident.

The Red Cross distributed cleaning supplies to two households. Any residents who were not able to connect with the Red Cross can do so by calling 877-Red-Cross.
