NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Rain is soaking the New York City area on a chilly Thursday as a coastal storm moves up the East Coast—a system that caused the postponement of the Mets home opener in Queens.

Periods of rain and drizzle will roll through the area all day, with the heaviest pockets and worst flooding likely on Long Island and in Connecticut, according to AccuWeather.

The soggy weather will linger into the evening and then taper off Thursday night. In total, about an inch will fall in the boroughs, and up to 2 inches on the Island.

Thursday’s high will reach a chilly 52 degrees in Manhattan before temps dip to around 40 overnight.

The Mets were supposed to play their first home game of the season against the Brewers at Citi Field Thursday afternoon, but the game has been postponed until Friday , when conditions look much more favorable.

Friday will be windy, cool and partly cloudy, but dry, with a high of 54.

The weekend looks decent for early spring—temps will be near 60 on both Saturday and Sunday under periods of sun and clouds.

Saturday will start sunny but end cloudy—with showers possible Saturday night, especially to the south—while Easter Sunday will start cloudy before the sun breaks out.

Looking ahead to next week, Monday is expected to be dry, but a thunderstorm is in the forecast Tuesday. Highs will be around 50 both days.
