New Smyrna Speedway turns loose the horses on Derby Day; pair of 50-lap late-model races

New Smyrna Speedway throttles into Derby Day with its own brand of horsepower , including the Hoosier Pro Late Model series and four other classes of cars on the half-mile, high-banked oval in Samsula.

Qualifying begins at 5:30 Saturday afternoon and heat races start at 6. Features begin at 7:30.

Along with a pair of 50-lap Hoosier Late Model races, the lineup includes E-Mods, Super Stocks, Black Jack Sealcoating Bombers, and Florida Southern Ground Pounders.

Admission is $20 for adults, $5 for kids ages 12-17, with kids 11 and under admitted free. Check the speedway’s website for more info.

The following Saturday, May 11, is Family Fun Night at New Smyrna, which means $5 grandstand admission for all.

Also on May 11, Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville resumes its springtime schedule with a lineup that includes sprints, three-quarter modifieds and late-models on the half-mile dirt oval. More info on the website.
