Drew Brees 'got a raw deal' as TV analyst, says top NFL announcer

After his playing career was over, New Orleans Saints legend and future Hall of Famer Drew Brees tried his hand at being an analyst on television for NBC, but it was short-lived and he was ultimately done after one season.

Brees' showing as an analyst was not received well nationally, and his worst moment came in a lackluster performance while calling a playoff game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Las Vegas Raiders, which reportedly led to NBC "souring" on the former NFL star, who the network hoped would be the heir-apparent to Chris Collinsworth, according to the New York Post's Andrew Marchand .

After just one year on the job working as both a studio and game analyst for the network, Brees did not return in what seemed to be a mutual decision, per Marchand, who said Brees wanted to call more games rather than being in the studio, but NBC "didn't have many NFL games to offer him."

Whatever the case may be, one of the top announcers in all of sports, Joe Buck, believes Brees should get another shot at the gig, wherever that may be.

"I think Drew Brees got a raw deal," Buck said on the Sports Media with Richard Deitsch podcast. "If there's anybody who was ever created in a computer to be a top analyst, I think it's Drew Brees and I would love to see him get another chance at that. He got one game, and he was working with a new crew and a new play-by-play guy and everybody expects brilliance. You make one comment, and it gets its own life on social media. It's just ridiculous."

It is true that Brees had a rough time with the job, but he also didn't have a ton of time to perfect his craft. If a top announcer like Buck believes in Brees and thinks he should get another shot, perhaps someone should give it to him.
