NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — A New London mother is accused of organizing a group assault on her own daughter.

The 13-year-old girl’s assault was captured on video, according to police. This led to the arrests of 10 juveniles and two adults, which included the girl’s aunt, 29-year old Keosha Muriel, and her mother, 32-year old Idinah Muriel.

Victim’s mother among 12 charged in 13-year-old’s assault in New London

Police say the victim’s mother orchestrated the attack because she “wanted to humiliate the female juvenile victim for being disrespectful.” She allegedly offered $50 to anyone who wanted to attack her daughter.

“I just don’t understand how a mother could do something like that,” said one neighbor, who did not want to be identified.

According to court documents, the attack happened at about 6 p.m. on April 29 in the parking lot the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store in New London. Police said it started with Keosha Muriel pulling her niece out of the car. She then pulled the girl’s hair out.

Police say other videos show the victim’s boyfriend placing his knee on her neck, making it hard for her to breathe, while other juveniles tried ripping her eyelashes off. Keosha Muriel is seen on video laughing.

The girl, who is in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, told an investigator that the abuse is “her life everyday,” according to legal documents, and that “it is what it is.”
