The New Baltimore City Council approved a pair of updates to the community’s golf cart ordinance on May 13. Under the new rules, registered golf carts may cross state trunk lines, highways or county roads using the most direct line of crossing. Community gears up for Charity Classic Golf Scramble in Troy
TROY — Community members still have the opportunity to sign up to participate in or help sponsor the Rotary Club of Troy’s second annual Charity Golf Classic Scramble. This event will support multiple local charities and organizations, including Children’s Hospital of Michigan-Troy, the Boys and Girls Club, and American Red Cross, among many others. Last year, this event raised around $10,000, organizers said.
Motorcyclist seriously injured in Chesterfield Township crash
A motorcyclist remains hospitalized with serious injuries following a May 12 crash in Chesterfield Township. Police responding to the crash on Gratiot Avenue near Carriage Way Drive, north of 23 Mile Road, found a damaged Ford F150 pickup and a heavily damaged Harley Davidson motorcycle. The Ford was driven by a 58-year-old Chesterfield Township resident, and the motorcycle by a 21-year-old Sterling Heights resident.

Former Clinton Township Officer Sentenced to Probation for Unauthorized Use of Police Database
A former officer of the Clinton Township Police was sentenced after pleading guilty to illicitly utilizing a police database to search a vehicle license plate. John Hreno, the ex-officer, was sentenced to probation and community service following his admission to the misdemeanor, according to The Detroit News. The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office disclosed Hreno's sentence of two years on probation and a requirement to fulfill 25 hours of community service.
New Baltimore requests speed study for 24 Mile Road
New Baltimore officials are taking a closer look at controlling traffic on local streets. The city council on May 13 voted to request a speed study from the Macomb County Department of Roads for a portion of 24 Mile Road from Huntley Avenue to Baker Road. The current speed limit is 55 mph. The limit drops to 25 mph east of Maynard “Red” Aurand Memorial Park.

Richmond school board approves contract with food service employees
The Richmond Community Schools Board of Education greenlit a three-year contract between the district and its food service employees on May 13. During a regular meeting, the board voted unanimously to accept the recommendation of the superintendent and approve the three-year contract from July 1 of this year through June 30, 2027. Secretary Sandra Fortuna was absent.
