Bob Cannon leaves lasting legacy in government, community
CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Township Supervisor Bob Cannon, the longest-serving member on the Clinton Township Board of Trustees, will not be running in August. Cannon spent 16 years as a trustee and 24 years as supervisor for the township. He surpassed Otto Duckwitz, who was on the board from 1898 to 1917, as the board’s longest-serving member. In 40 years, it’s hard to not leave some kind of lasting impression on a community.
$1M project is coming to Marine City Highway, Bethuy Road intersection
CASCO TWP. — Reconstruction of the intersection at Marine City Highway and Bethuy Road is scheduled to start on Monday. Work includes adding a center left turn lane and right turn lanes on Marine City Highway to both the north and south legs of Bethuy Road. During construction, the north and southbound lanes of Bethuy Road will be closed at Marine City Highway.
Truck hauling iodine gas, lithium batteries catches fire, shuts down I-94
UPDATE: All lanes of I-94 reopened shortly after 3 p.m. Police shut down I-94 in Emmett Township Saturday morning, May 18 after a semi-truck caught fire. A preliminary investigation shows the tanker truck was hauling iodine gas and lithium batteries, making the fire a “hazardous material incident,” according to Michigan State Police.
13 road closures to begin this week in Michigan
Construction crews are getting to work improving Michigan’s roadways and bridges. From Sunday, May 12, through Saturday, May 18, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has more than 110 road projects scheduled to close lanes, ramps, and full segments of major roadways. That’s in addition to ongoing projects carried over from previous weeks.
Former Clinton Township police officer sentenced to attend Death Museum, probation
MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A 36-year-old former Clinton Township police officer was sentenced Tuesday, May 14, to two years probation and to attend the Death Museum. According to authorities, an audit by Michigan State Police concluded that in August 2022, John Hreno ran a license plate into the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) that was never part of an investigation and that there was no valid law enforcement for the plate to be checked.
