New Haven is renowned for its pizza, but it owes its claim to fame to another iconic food item.

In the year 1900, a customer walked into Louis' Lunch and informed proprietor Louis Lassen that he was in a hurry.

Without hesitation, Louis crafted his own blend of ground steak between two slices of toast and swiftly served it to the customer. In that moment, the most recognizable American sandwich was born.

Join us in this week's edition of Road Trip Close to Home, where News 12 photojournalist Lori Golias takes us on a journey to Louis' Lunch, the historic establishment where this culinary marvel originated.
