NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Dozens of women from across the state gathered in their best outfits on the New Haven Green Saturday afternoon for the first Connecticut Women of Color Flash Mob.

The event was organized by Bron & Noir along with 100 Women of Color and was sponsored by Yale and New Haven’s Arts, Culture and Tourism Department.

“Something like this is very inspirational to me,” said Elle Pearson, owner of Elle Dot Kay Stylings and co-creator of the Flash Mob. “As an entrepreneur and a creative, there are women who are gathered here who I look up to. Every single day I watch how they tackle issues, I watch how their businesses grow, I watch how they handle being a mother and being a business woman and also just being a part of the community.”

The goal of the Flash Mob, according to Pearson, is to create and expand community between women of color across the state. Visitors were encouraged to come dressed in their best attire and be ready to pose for the videographer and photographers at the event.

“We’ve been doing the 100 men of color flash mob here in New Haven, on the campus of Yale, and the women have been asking us ‘when is our turn?’” said June Archer, founder of the 100 Women of Color Gala Awards. “[We want]  one place to let them know they are the pillars of our community and the backbone of our families and communities.”

The festivities ended with an afterparty in the Canal Dock Boathouse in New Haven. 100 women of Color hope to make this an annual event.
