NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — An artist from New Bern began painting when she was young. Her career has taken off ever since.

Georgie Nakima, a New Bern native, is a mural artist who has left her mark on buildings and events of all kinds. She has painted many places in Charlotte, Detroit, Winston-Salem and two key places, Coachella and at Raleigh’s Dreamville, two of the biggest music festivals in existence.

Nakima was asked to paint on the side of an old pharmacy in her hometown and titled her mural “It Takes A Village,” in tribute to her grandmothers near an African American Heritage Trail. The mural was unveiled on Thursday as part of a celebration ceremony.
