Gray Purcell: Finding Your Niche(s) at Colgate
Originally from Baltimore, Md., senior Gray Purcell is an environmental studies major and sociology minor who participates in a diverse portfolio of activities and organizations on campus. She has ingrained herself into the Colgate University community by fostering connections with her peers. Purcell founded the club swim team and has served as its president for two years. Additionally, she was a member of Link Staff, is actively involved in Greek life as a member of Gamma Phi Beta, holds a position as one of the 13 Presidential Ambassadors and is currently a member of the Tredecim Honor Society. Further, Purcell has also served time as an Ambassador in Colgate’s Office of Admission.
Peer-Led Conversation Allows Students To Share Opinions on Resources, Feelings of Safety on Campus
The Colgate University ALANA Cultural Center and Haven hosted an event on “Vulnerabilities of Intersecting Identities” on Tuesday, April 23. The event was organized and facilitated by Colgate students, including juniors Fredy Alvarado-Retana, Vianey Morris and Chloe Dorris and first-year Mandy Chen. The conversation was open for all students to participate in, with discussion topics ranging from feelings of safety on campus amongst black, indigenous people of color (BIPOC) students at Colgate, to sexual harassment on campus and how one can seek resources.

Every Tuesday, members of staff spend several hours in the office located on the third floor of Colgate University’s James C. Colgate Hall, working hard to create each issue. Studying Abroad Should Be a Requirement of the Colgate Core Curriculum
Traveling abroad is undeniably remarkable. When immersing oneself in a culture different from one’s upbringing, the education obtained from these experiences goes far beyond what is taught in a classroom. By simply conversing with locals, learning their daily routine and even viewing their tangible surroundings, one is exposed to new experiences. This leaves me questioning why studying abroad for either a semester or merely a few weeks is not a mandatory part of Colgate University’s Core Curriculum. Of course, such a journey is an unattainable luxury for many, but what Colgate provides for its students are magnificent and easily accessible adventures. Therefore, although certain challenges may exist when scheduling this foreign voyage, it is not an impossible feat.
Colgate Live Music Collective Welcomes Colombian Folk Artist Mónica Giraldo to Hamilton
Colombian folk musician Mónica Giraldo performed at Flour & Salt Café on Thursday, April 25, bringing an opportunity for members of the community to appreciate and bond over a style of music not often available in Hamilton, N.Y. The concert, sponsored by the Colgate University Live Music Collective (CLMC), started around 8 p.m. and lasted approximately an hour, though many of the attendees stayed later to talk both to Giraldo and with one another.
Water Tower Maintenance In Village Of Milford
Water tower maintenance is scheduled in the Village of Milford. Starting on Friday, the water tower on Summit Street will be offline for routine cleaning and maintenance. The work requires the tower to be completely empty and draining of the water will begin early on Friday. During this time, water will be present on Summit Street and lanes may be partially blocked.
