NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Public Schools wants your input on what to name the district's yet-to-be-built South End elementary school.

The school , expected to be completed sometime in 2026, will replace the aging James B. Congdon and John B. DeValles elementary schools in the South End. The location planned for it is the former Goodyear plant site at 651 Orchard St.

According to Superintendent Andrew O'Leary, recommendations received will be reviewed by the Finance & Operations Subcommittee at its May 6 meeting. The subcommittee will then form a recommendation for naming the school, to be presented to the full School Committee, which will make the final decision.

Members of the public with ideas for names are asked to send their suggestions to nbps_financeops@newbedfordschools.org . Submissions should include the name being suggested and a reason for the suggestion, Interim Assistant Superintendent Office of Finance and Operations Dr. Barry Rabinovitch said at this month's School Committee meeting.
