Most of Collin County’s highway patrol officers left the sheriff’s office last year — but Sheriff Jim Skinner says he expects that to improve with a new pay increase. The highway patrol unit at the Sheriff’s Office had a turnover rate of about 86% in 2022 according to a report from Collin County Human Resources. Hopkins County Deputy J. Wilkerson received a notification about an incident of an inmate attacking a Corrections Officer in the Hopkins County Jail. The Deputy promptly went to the Jail and observed that the Corrections Officer had visible redness on both sides of his face, along with dried blood.

HALL COUNTY, Neb. — Two people were transported with non-life-threatening injuries following a crash early Monday morning near Grand Island. According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded just before 1:45 a.m. to a rollover crash in the area of Airport Road and St. Paul Road. The sheriff’s office said the driver, a 26-year-old male from Garland, Texas, was driving carelessly northbound on St. Paul Road when he lost control of his 2021 Jeep Gladiator, causing it to roll.

DALLAS, Texas — A single-vehicle crash on the President George Bush Turnpike near Miles Road resulted in one fatality on September 28, 2023. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the incident occurred at 1:37 p.m., involving a 2021 Dodge Challenger. The driver, whose identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification, was pronounced dead at the scene by Sachse Fire Department.

A case of vehicle theft has been reported by a resident in the Pleasant Valley/ Sunset Dr area in Garland, Texas. The stolen item, a work van, reportedly belonged to the resident's father and was stolen during the night with the exact time unconfirmed. The resident indicated that their security camera detected motion but couldn't produce clear images. A police report was duly filed. The resident also mentioned this incident is not the first as several car break-ins have occurred over the last year in their premises. McKinney PD’s Crimes Against Persons Unit seeks help in identifying a suspect connected to a late August assault. On Aug. 26, at about 9:30 in the morning, a cyclist was riding his bike on the trails through Erwin Park when he passed the suspect, who became angry and started cursing at him for an unknown reason. The cyclist sped up to distance himself from the man but as he continued to ride his bike, he saw the same person standing to the left of the trail. The suspect threw a bike in front of the cyclist, causing the cyclist to flip over his handlebars. The suspect then got on top of the cyclist and assaulted him further before getting away and hiding behind a vehicle. The suspect then got back on his bike and left through the trails.

(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 40-year-old man, who is serving a five-year prison term in Texas for violating a protective order there, has been given two concurrent two-year prison terms for illegally obtaining by theft a total of $20,500 from personal and business checks from an elderly relative in rural Stillwater and depositing the funds into his personal bank account in a case investigated by Payne County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Secrest.
