Scam Alert

NELSONVILLE — Law enforcement agencies are warning residents of a telephone scam in which the caller requests donations for the Nelsonville Police Department.

According to a press release from the city, the agency is not requesting donations from the public. Residents are urged not to make any donations or give any personal or financial information to the scam caller.

If you’ve lost money to a phone scam or have information about the company or scammer who called you, tell the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

If you didn’t lose money and just want to report a call, use the streamlined reporting form at DoNotCall.gov.

Any information you provide will help stop the scammers. Report the number that received the call, the number on your caller ID, and any number they told you to call back. Also report the exact date and time of the call if you know it.

State Fire Marshal

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal (SFM) is hosting a series of upcoming regional statewide outreach events to foster stronger connections with members of Ohio’s fire service community and the public.

The fire marshal and other state officials will be in Athens from 10 a.m.-noon May 9 at the Athens Community Center, 701 E. State St., Athens.

Clean-up day

Lodi Township Trustees will hold their Annual Lodi Township Clean Up Day from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 18 at the Township Garage, 15525 Fossil Rock Road, Athens.

Household materials and scrap metal only. Tires, household chemicals and freon items will not be accepted.

Trail maintenance

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Athens will host a trail maintenance day at 9 a.m. May 19 at the Ridges Nature Trail. Meet at the parking lot by the trailhead near the putt-putt.

Some tools will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring anything they think will be helpful. Rain date is June 1.
