Nederland High School’s Madisyn Jeffcoat signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career at Kilgore College.

Jeffcoat was accompanied by her family, teammates and coaches Tueasday at the Nederland High School Dome Gym to witness her sign with the Rangers.

“I chose Kilgore because they offered me a great opportunity to go play and they offer a nursing program, as well,” she said.

This season, the Lady Bulldogs made it to the third round of the 5A playoffs, where they lost to the Barbers Hill Lady Eagles. Despite the loss, making it to the third round was Jeffcoat’s favorite memory.

“My favorite high school softball memory would probably be the friendships that I made along the way and also going to the third round my senior year,” she said.

Head coach Will Mallette said he was excited when he heard Jeffcoat was accepted into Kilgore.

“This has been a dream of hers, and just through sheer desire and persistence, she has stayed working,” Mallatte said. “I think maybe she thought she wasn’t going to make it, and I know when we got the news, I was as excited as anybody, and I know the coaching staff feels the same way.”

This season, Jeffcoat was honored Academic All District and received 17-5A All District Honorable Mention.

Mallette also recognized Jeffcoat for her leadership and team accomplishments this season.

“We’re certified in a CNA and a PCT this year, too,” he said. “She has balanced sports and school and some extra nursing classes and stuff like that, and you were a phenomenal leader for the team. I don’t think there’s anything more we can ask of you. We’re just super excited to see what you do, and we’re always here for you.”

Jeffcoat says she is continuing with softball at the collegiate level because she loves it and is excited to play at the higher level.

“Softball is something that I really love and I really cannot wait to play at the next level,” she said. “I’m most excited to see the higher level with playing and stuff, and also just really getting to experience a college sport.”
