Holy Cross football falls at Sayre in clash of KHSAA Class A contenders
LEXINGTON — Penalties plagued both teams in a KHSAA Class A top-five showdown, but Holy Cross couldn’t capitalize as much as Sayre in a 29-6 loss on Oct. 2. Chris Brumbaugh scored the Cougars’ lone touchdown on a 32-yard pass from Jerek Hoover midway through the second frame, answering an earlier score by Sayre after the Spartans failed to convert on a fake punt inside their 45. Sayre, ranked No. 2 behind Pikeville in the latest Class A media poll , otherwise bottled up the No. 5 Cougars (5-1) in the first half and through the remainder. Isaiah King scored twice for the Spartans (6-0). Kicking, coverage of kicks, returns, all that stuff. We work on that, we talk about it and it came through for us tonight.” Backers’
