Encompass Recreation announces Sensory Trails

NORTH COUNTRY, N.Y. (WWTI) – Encompass Recreation and Indian River Lakes Conservancy have announced the grand opening of a joint venture, groundbreaking Sensory Trails. This project looks to revolutionize natural recreational spaces by offering a multisensory experience that caters to all individuals, including those with sensory sensitivities.

We believe that these Sensory Trails will not only enhance the quality of life for individuals in our community but also serve as a model for inclusive outdoor spaces worldwide ,”

The ribbon-cutting ceremonies that mark the official launch of these trails is scheduled for:

  • Saturday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Baker Woods Preserve in Natural Bridge/Lewis County; and
  • Sunday, May 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Redwood Hill Preserve in Redwood/Jefferson County.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the trails firsthand and experience the power of sensory engagement at the grand opening ceremony. The grand opening ceremony will feature:

  • Speeches from key stakeholders,
  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony,
  • Self-guided tours of the trails and
  • Opportunities for all to experience the sensory elements.

Sensory Trails are intentionally designed pathways that will engage the senses, providing visitors with a unique and immersive walk-through nature. Incorporating elements such as tactile installations, soothing sounds and visually stimulating features, these trails offer an immersive experience for visitors of all ages and abilities.
