    Nashville Zoo welcomes first red river hog piglets

    Staff at Nashville Zoo celebrated the birth of their first litter of red river hog piglets, footage released on April 30 shows.

    The zoo said the piglets were born on April 11 and have been named Fig, Peach, Persimmon and Clementine.

    “This is the first litter of red river hog piglets born at Nashville Zoo, bringing the total number of this species in the zoo’s care to seven,” it said.

    The babies were born to first-time parents Wilbur and Truffles.

    Staff said the worked closely with Truffles to ensure she had a successful pregnancy.

    “Frequent ultrasounds were conducted throughout the pregnancy to check in on the health of the piglets. We knew early on that Truffles was expecting three to four piglets,” hoofstock keeper Morgan Fontenot said.
