15th annual Patriot Golf Days Tournament held in Naples to support veterans
NAPLES, Fla. — Southwest Florida is known as one of the golf capitals of the world. With so many courses and beautiful weather year-round, the sport is played 365 days a year. So, playing a round of golf isn’t normally special around here. However, an outing in Naples on Monday carried a little extra meaning.
Golden Gate Fields has 8th horse death of year
ALBANY, Calif. (AP) — Carolina Mia, a 6-year-old mare, was euthanized after a race at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday, the eighth horse death at the track this year. The number of deaths at the track matches that of Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, where an eighth horse died a week earlier. Two horses were euthanized after injuries on the day of the Derby. Trained by Felix Rondan, Carolina Mia had four wins in 29 career starts with earnings of $219,980. ___
Grey Oaks CC Works With Andrew Green to Renovate Pine Course
After a comprehensive review process in 2019, the club in Naples, Fla. selected Green, a renowned golf course restoration specialist and industry-leading golf architect, to lead the project. His past work includes the restoration of Oak Hill Country Club’s East Course, which recently hosted the 2023 PGA Championship. Green has been onsite at Grey Oaks overseeing the course renovation, which began in February and is expected to end in July.

Golf Digest released it's annual list of the Top 100 Golf Courses in America earlier this month and three courses in Florida made the list. One of them, Calusa Pines is right here in Southwest Florida. The Naples course is a regular on what many consider to be the most prestigious list of best golf courses in the United States. Calusa Pines came in at No. 69, moving up a few spots from its 2022 placement on the list.

The First Tee – Naples/Collier selected Julian Alonso and Payton Balliet as their 2023 four-year college scholarship recipients. The two scholarships are $10,000 each and are renewable on an annual basis for up to four academic years based on the renewal criteria set by the scholarship committee.
