Girls lacrosse: Cast your online vote for the Player of the Week

With the girls lacrosse season appraoching the homestretch, Journal News/lohud readers cast 18,953 online votes last week for Player of the Week.

Nanuet senor Makaela Larkin, a Susquehanna University commit, who recorded the 100th point of her varsity career with four goals over two games, garnered the honor, receiving 9.014 votes.

The runner-up in a field of five was North Salem goalie Maddie Merryman, who received 6,043 votes.

This week, coaches have nominated six athletes for their May 13-19 play.

Anastasia Byrnes, Byram Hills

Concluding a varsity career with the Bobcats that started in eighth grade but was interupted by COVID, the senior midfielder scored five times and had two assists in Byram Hills' 15-9 first-round loss in the Section 1 Class C playoffs. Byrnes, who'll play next year for American University, surpassed 300 career goals on varsity this season.

Mia Cantillana, Irvington

The junior netminder, who has recorded 94 saves this season and is closing in on 200 for her varsity career, had huge stops, especially late, during the Bulldogs' 8-7 Section 1 Class D quarterfinal win over Briarcliff. Cantillana finished with nine saves. Included were multiple saves in the last few minutes. Her biggest stop might have been on a free-position shot with time expiring. That save prevented the game from going to overtime.

Kacey Pritts, Pearl River

The junior attacker, who has recorded more career assists for the Pirates than anyone in the last decade, had seven of them, along with two goals, during Pearl River's first-round Section 1 Class C playoff win over Ardsley.

Katelyn Quinlan, Croton

The freshman midfielder scored four times in a Section 1 Class D opening-round win over Westlake, then put in five more goals in a quarterfinal loss to top-seeded Albertus Magnus. Over the two games, Quinlan beat opponents to 15 balls off the draw, recorded three assists and forced Westlake and Magnus into a combined six turnovers.

Chloe Ryan, White Plains

The senior attacker finished her high school career in fine style, netting three goals and adding three assists in a Section 1 Class A quartefinal loss to Mamaroneck. Those goals and assists allowed her to surpass 200 career points -- her fifth point giving her 200 and her sixth 201. Ryan, a team captain, finished this season with 39 goals and 24 assists.

Lilly Whaling, Rye

The senior attacker dominated during Rye's Section 1 Class C quarterfinal win over Hen Hud. Whaling scored six times on seven shots, won six balls off the draw, grabbed another ground ball and forced a Hen Hud turnover.
