Swimming Advisory Lifted at Jockey's Ridge: Safe Water Quality Restored for Nags Head Residents
Officials in Dare County have lifted a swimming advisory at a local site due to better water quality. The advisory was first issued on August 9 at the Jockey's Ridge Sound-side Access in Nags Head. It was lifted as bacteria levels dropped below state and Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) standards. The site had previously recorded high levels of enterococci bacteria, above the EPA limit.
ESA CROWNS ITS 2023 EASTERNS CHAMPIONS
The Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) held its annual Easterns Surfing Championship event at Jennette’s Pier this week in Nags Head, North Carolina. The Easterns is the ESA’s largest event bringing its top amateur surfers from Maine through Florida to the Outer Banks to compete in 23 age divisions that include shortboard and longboard.

The First Flight High women’s tennis team crossed the Washington Baum bridge to Manteo on Thursday night Sept. 14, where strong wind gusts posed a considerable challenge to both sides. Ball tosses drifted during serves, while ground strokes floated long and fell short depending on which end of the court the players occupied.

Swimming Advisory Lifted for Neuse River Sites: Local Craven and Pamlico Counties Residents Can Safely Swim Again
Officials have removed the swimming advisory for all coastal waters, initially due to Tropical Storm Idalia. This includes swimming sites along the Neuse River in Craven and Pamlico counties. The decision was based on test results indicating bacterial levels within safe swimming standards.
