PASO ROBLES, CALIFORNIA-- Situated in the award-winning Paso Robles wine region, the 18-room plus one bunkhouse property opened to guests in June of 2020, entirely reimagined with an equine theme. With a Western chic inspired by a love of horses, the room selection includes California King rooms or Double Rooms, all outfitted with luxurious amenities.

The hotel was one of only thirty hotels in the U.S. chosen for the list of 73 worldwide properties. The well-traveled editors of the magazine compiled the list for the 16th time in 2021. Entries on the list read like a five-star Who's Who of the hotel world, with just a sprinkling of unknown property names. Many of the hotels on the list are located in larger cities like Boston, Austin, Denver, Chicago, and NYC. Hotels include The Rockaway Hotel in New York, Riggs in Washington D.C, and Nobu, Chicago.

The vast majority of the hotels on the list lean toward the luxury end of the travel market. Consider the Galleria Vik Milano, located inside the famed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and you begin to get the picture of the magnitude of earning a spot on the list.

What Travel + Leisure had to say:

“Reinventing an American roadside inn is hardly a novel concept, but few have the elegance and attention to detail of the Stables Inn, in Paso Robles. Owners Robert and Sherry Gilson (who also own the ivy-clad Hotel Cheval, nearby) gave the midcentury motel an equestrian-themed overhaul with farmhouse furnishings. The 18 guest rooms, including a bunkhouse that sleeps six, feature details like cowhide rugs and colorful Pop art by Anne Laddon. On a visit with my family, I was impressed by the perks and attentive service despite the reasonable price, including a complimentary breakfast of locally roasted coffee and pastries, served each morning in the Tack Room, a shared space with sliding barn doors, decorated with vintage black-and-white photos and an early 1900s galvanized-metal windmill tail vane. A towering magnolia tree anchors another communal area with a firepit and Adirondack chairs, where guests can station themselves for a glass of inky Syrah (from one of the region's wineries) before or after dinner. stablesinnpaso.com; Doubles from $155. —Casey Hatfield-Chiotti”

Stables Inn is located three blocks from Paso Roble's historic downtown park and easy walking distance from several tasting rooms, including Derby Wine Estates Tasting Room and D'Anbino Vineyards and Cellars. .

Situated just off the 101, the inn offers an Electric Vehicle Charging Station, Level 2/ 240volt. And it's okay to bring your canine companion because the inn is pet-friendly.

Guests are invited to enjoy tea and coffee served in the Tack Room every morning and a communal firepit provides a natural outdoor gathering spot for guests in the evening.

    About the rooms:

Each guestroom is outfitted with a private en-suite bathroom with shower, 43” Flat Screen Smart TV, individual air conditioning and heating, mini-fridge, original artwork, and complimentary high-speed WIFI is available throughout the property. Both the double and the king rooms currently rent for $155 per night, while the Bunkhouse, which sleeps six, rents for $495 per night.

The décor is what you might call California Western-- fun and fresh.

The hotel is the sister hotel to the boutique luxury Hotel Cheval, also located in Paso Robles.
