Man accused of leading Horry County police on 100+ mph chase on Highway 501

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Georgia man is facing charges after allegedly leading Horry County police on a chase reaching more than 100 mph and trying to flee into a pond, according to an incident report obtained by News13.

Jazmon Daymond Wright, 34, was charged with failure to stop for a blue light and three drug-related crimes.

Police noticed Wright’s Kia Soul evade Aynor police trying to conduct a traffic stop at about 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the report. Wright then led police on a chase for about 20 minutes, reaching 100 mph on Highway 501 toward Myrtle Beach.

The chase ended when sticks deflated his tires and he was taken into custody in a nearby pond, according to an arrest warrant. Police searched his vehicle and found about 1,445 grams of methamphetamine, about four grams of cocaine and about 30 grams of fentanyl.

Wright was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Wednesday at about 12:40 a.m., online records show. As of this writing, he was still in jail with his bond not yet set.
