INDIANAPOLIS — A Muncie woman punched a man in the face while she was trying to take golf clubs from his porch, police said after arresting her over the weekend.

According to an affidavit for probable cause released on Monday, officers with the Muncie Police Department arrested 30-year-old Haley Jo Dixon on Sunday.

Court records show that police first became aware of Dixon’s activity when they were called to the 1700 block of W. 7th Street in Muncie on a report of a burglary. Dispatchers told responding officers they could hear a male yelling at a female when they received a call about the incident.

When police arrived at the scene, they met with a local homeowner, who said he saw Dixon in his driveway when he returned home from a family outing on Sunday. The homeowner told officers that Dixon confronted him about a set of golf clubs that were sitting on his back porch.

Per court documents, the homeowner said Dixon told him the clubs belonged to her boyfriend. The homeowner then challenged her on that claim, noting that he bought the clubs at a church rummage sale on Saturday.

The man told police he later noticed a door to his home was open during his argument with Dixon. Court records show that the homeowner then grabbed a bag Dixon was carrying because he believed it had items she had stolen from his home in it.

Court records show that the homeowner told Dixon she could have her bag back when police arrived. The man reported that Dixon then punched him in the face with a closed fist.

The homeowner tried to chase Dixon, but he tripped and fell down. According to court documents, the man sustained injuries to his face from the punch. He hurt his foot and right arm when he fell.

Police confiscated the bag the man had taken from Dixon. Officers later searched the bag and discovered a baggie containing a crystal-like substance, per court documents.

As police began logging the contents in Dixon’s bag, they were notified that other law enforcement officials had located Dixon and taken her into custody.

Dixon has been preliminarily charged with burglary causing bodily injury, battery and possession of methamphetamine.

Burglary causing bodily injury is a Level 3 Felony in Indiana. The maximum penalty for a Level 3 Felony in the Hoosier State is a 16-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
